✈Airline Beginnings

On the 20th May 2011, the Thai Airways board announced plans to create a new lower-cost airline, at the time dubbed Thai Wings. It began operations in July 2012. The new airline was intended to serve the market gap between low-cost carriers and full service airlines.

The name Thai Smile was chosen from a pool of 2,229 entries in a contest to name the airline. Its first aircraft was the Airbus A320, which was delivered the same month the airline started operations, with a livery of Thai Airways with the addition of the word "smile".

✈Expansion and Development

On 23 September 2016, Thai Smile, announced four new services to Gaya, Varanasi, Jaipur, and Lucknow in India marking the expansion of THAI's network in regional market. It also vowed to resume its suspended routes and THAI's terminated regional routes to Da Nang, Kota Kinabalu, Luang Prabang and Mandalay. Also the airline considered launching new services to Hangzhou and Zhengzhou in China.

In 2017 Thai Smile, planned for new regional routes such as Cebu, Medan, Surabaya, Chandigarh, Shantou and Tianjin.
