This Island, located on the Balearic Islands Archipelago, is at a distance of nearly 250 km from the Spanish mainland. The islands have a Mediterranean climate, and the four major islands are all popular tourist destinations. Ibiza in particular is known as an international party destination, attracting many of the world's most popular DJs to the many nightclubs located on the island. The islands' culture and cuisine are similar to that of the rest of Spain but have their own distinctive features. Mallorca, is the biggest of the islands, the capital of the island is located in the bay of the same name and enjoys an excellent climate all year round, known for its sun and beach tourism, it also has an attractive historic quarter. The Cathedral, Almudaina Palace, the Lonja fish market and Plaza Mayor are some of the sites that are well worth visiting. The landscape of the island is full of coves, beaches and cliffs on the coast, and inland you will find typical towns and mountain ranges up to 1,500 metres high.

It's a Mediterranean climate, typical of the southern countries of the region,with warm weather year round. Winters are rarely cold, with light winds and at times some thunderstorms. However it gets colder in the Tramuntana range, where brief episodes of snow during the winter are not unusual. In contrast, in the Summer's, the high season, Mallorca is a heaven for those seeking warm seas, beach and relax, as the temperatures can rise to an easy 30 °C. The feel is quite dry and hot once you go inland as the island elevates up to 1.500 meters.

The culinary offer in the Balearic Islands remains true to the principles of Mediterranean cuisine. Typical dishes of the region are sobrasada, Mahón cheese and Binissalem-Mallorca wine, 

For dessert, the best thing to have is an Ensaimada, (bread made from sweetened, yeast-risen dough and sprinkled with powder sugar or other ingredients) found in the many traditional bakeries around the island. It's a typical souvenir to buy when you leave from the airport, as they are packed in air-tight sealed bags and boxes. They come in multiple sizes and flavours. 

There are also over 1,000 restaurants in the city, which as well as the most typical dishes, also offer a wide range of cuisines from all over the world, and creations by internationally-renowned chefs. The most popular restaurants are to be found in several areas: the old part of town, on the seafront promenade, Paseo del Born, Santa Catalina, Es Molinar...And here's a tip: if you want to buy typical products like sobrasadas, cheese, almonds, cakes and pastries visit El Olivar market. 

This interesting town has a double attraction. Sóller is a beautiful town on the North East coast of Mallorca. It is 3 km inland of its port, Puerto de Sóller, surrounded by mountains, in a fertile valley which it shares with the village of Fornalutx and the hamlet of Biniaraix.

Sóller valley and port are about half an hour from Palma de Mallorca by car. Alternatively you can reach the town/port by bus L211 from Palma for €2.65 one way. There is also a train, but this is expensive at €30.  The valley and the surrounding mountains, “the Tramuntana Sierra” are the favourite resort for people from all over the world,though specially you will many Germans and British, those who enjoy nature walks, culture, water sports and good food, or who simply seek a peaceful place away from the noisy tourism of other popular areas.

The best idea when going to Soller, is to visit the port first before lunch and then take the famous Tourist Tram which takes you to the town of Soller, the trip goes through some great scenery. Get to the terminus stop at the port with good time as the trams get full very quickly. The trip takes 25 minutes for €6 one way. 

The Balearic Islands are internationally famous for their fantastic nightlife, and Palma is an example of this. There a numerous outdoor cafés, pubs and bars all around the city which make ideal places for enjoying a drink, and large discos where you can dance to the beat of some of the best-known DJs on the music scene. Many of these night spots are located on the seafront promenade. 

All year round you'll find festivals, concerts, plays, dance performances and exhibitions in the major museums such as Es Baluard, where you can enjoy the most traditional culture through to the very latest trends. Palma is also home to jazz (with the Jazz Voyeur Festival), opera (the season in the Teatro Principal).The most typical festivities in the city, such as the fiestas of Revetlla de Sant Antoni, Sant Sebastià and Sant Joan, offer performances for everyone and street parades where you'll find it hard to resist the temptation to join in the high spirits and friendly atmosphere.

The Balearic islands, provide excellent shopping, which is typical of Spain ranging from the national brands to the more exclusive international stores and luxury boutiques. The island of Mallorca is no exception and is full of many popular shops and markets, selling a wide range of merchandise.

The larger shops in Mallorca usually open from 09:00 to 21:00, particularly in the tourist centres. Some shops in Mallorca do close between 14:00 to 17:00, for the Spanish afternoon siesta. The numerous beachfront shops stay open until late at night and during the high season, most shops in Mallorca open seven days a week.

Markets in Mallorca provide the ideal place to purchase some of the freshest food and produce in the city, which is usually very reasonably priced. The markets offer a wonderful opportunity to try local specialities in Mallorca. Most markets in and around Mallorca tend to sell a little of everything, although Mallorca does have a few specialist markets.

Staying in Palma comes at a premium price, as it's one of the most affluent holidays destinations in Europe. Most visitors who come to Palma come with tours and packages which have been organised previously from their respective countries. This might be a good option to consider when travelling with friends /family as it will work out cheaper to buy a package.

There are many resorts in the island which offer half or full board catering and a full range of facilities. (Pools, proximity to the beaches, tennis courts, sport activities, tours, etc). For these packages it's best to contract them before you depart, specially if a group of people are travelling. 

If you travel alone or in a couple and want to save money, city Hotels and hostels are more economical, but seasons dictate prices, and these change drastically. It's also a good idea to check private accommodation via Airbnb and Booking.com for more options. 

When visiting the island, most travellers come for the beach, sun and relaxing. However you can't overlook the island's beauty and nature, not to mention the history, art and culture which the city has to offer. To see the city in one day it's possible walking around the main attractions and sights. But if you want to explore the island and take in all it has to offer probably a good 3 days would be sufficient. Take into account that travelling from one side of the island to the other can take up to 90 minutes by car.
