History: The history of Vietnam Airlines dates back to January 1956, when the Vietnam Civil Aviation Department was established by the Government, marking the birth of the civil aviation industry in Vietnam.
At that time, the fleet was small with only five aircraft of IL-14, AN-2 and Aero-45 which started to serve domestic flights in September 1956. In April 1993, Vietnam Airlines was officially established as the country’s national flag carrier. On the 27th May 1995, Vietnam Airlines Corporation was born with the gathering of 20 aviation enterprises and the airline itself as the core business. On 20th October 2002, Vietnam Airlines introduced the new logo of the Golden Lotus and corporate identity. The delivery of its first own “state-of-the-art” B777 in 2003 also marked a true revolution in the airline’s fleet modernisation. It ordered new Airbus A321, A330, A350 as well as Boeing 777-300 and B787-800/900 Dreamliners.
Nowadays, Vietnam Airlines operates one of the most modern fleets in the region, today Vietnam Airlines operates to 21 cities throughout the country and 28 international destinations in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Its network extends to 26 countries and territories.In 2006, Vietnam Airlines joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as an official member. In June 2010, Vietnam Airlines joined SkyTeam global airline alliance, affirming the carrier’s new position on the global aviation map. In 2015, Vietnam Airlines started operating both next-generation aircraft Boeing 787-9 & Airbus A350 at the same time. In July 2016, Vietnam Airlines received a 4-Star Airline Certificate from Skytrax. The airline is striving to become one of the most favourable carriers in the Asia-Pacific region.

Operations: Vietnam Airlines has two major bases where it flies most of it's flights, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City equally act as major bases where the airline flies to it's international destinations on alternative days. This gives more flexibility of choice to the customers and ease of connections spread in two hubs.
The airline flies to 21 cities in Vietnam and 28 international destinations.
In Europe it flies direct to London, Moscow, Paris and Frankfurt. In Australia it flies to Sydney and Melbourne. IN the Middle East it flies to Abu Dhabi.
In Asia it flies to Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Phnom Phen, Siem Reap, Yangon, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Manila, Hong Kong, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Okinawa, Kufuoka, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Busan, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing and Guangzhou.
Fleet: Vietnam Airlines operated one of the most advanced and modern fleets of any Asian airline. It has modern up to date product and all it's aircraft are delivered new to the airline. It's short and medium routes are operated with Airbus A321 and high density routes up to A330. Long Haul operations are flown using Boeing 777, 787-800/900 and Airbus A330 and A350.
